Resolve the “Synchronization in progress” message for a coordinator

What to do when a test or preview remains in progress after being opened by a user with a management role.

Who is this article for?

This article is intended for coordinators, instructors, and managers who open an assessment to:

  • Review its content

  • Perform a test

  • Preview the assessment

  • Confirm the proctoring settings

Why does the synchronization remain in progress?

This issue may occur when Nexam is open in another browser tab or window.

If the browser puts one of these tabs to sleep, the synchronization process may remain associated with that tab. Video data transmission may then be interrupted, even if the technical requirements were successfully completed.

Resolve the issue

Follow these steps in order:

  1. Close all other Nexam tabs and windows

  2. Keep only one Nexam tab open

  3. Wait a few moments for the synchronization to resume

  4. If the message remains displayed, close your browser completely

  5. Reopen Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge

  6. Sign in to Nexam again using only one tab

  7. Return to your test or preview

If you are unsure whether Nexam is open in another tab, restart your computer and sign in to Nexam again using only one tab.

If the issue persists

If you are performing a test or preview with no data that needs to be preserved, open Nexam in a private browsing window.

If the synchronization remains blocked, contact Nexam technical support and provide:

  • The name of your organization

  • The name of the assessment

  • The browser used

  • The type of test performed

  • How long the synchronization message has been displayed

  • A screenshot of the displayed message

Prevent the issue from happening again

When opening a proctored assessment to perform a test or preview:

  • Use Nexam in only one browser tab

  • Close all other Nexam windows before starting

  • Use an up-to-date version of Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge

  • Wait for the synchronization to finish before closing the browser
