Adjusting your computer’s time settings

Make sure your device’s clock is synchronized to avoid access or display issues during your exam.

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Why your device time matters

When taking an exam on the Nexam platform, the local time zone of your device determines the exam’s start time. If your device clock is incorrect or out of sync, you may experience the following issues:

  • The exam does not appear at the scheduled time

  • The exam is temporarily restricted or unavailable

  • The countdown timer shows an incorrect remaining time

This typically happens when your device is not synchronized with Internet time.

How to fix this issue

To ensure your exam appears correctly and the timer is accurate, enable automatic time synchronization based on your operating system.

On Windows 10

  1. Click the Start menu

  2. Select the gear icon to open Settings

  3. Go to Time & Language > Date & Time

  4. Enable both of the following options:

    • Set time automatically

    • Set time zone automatically

On Windows 11

  1. Click the Start menu

  2. Select the gear icon to open Settings

  3. In the left-hand menu, click Time & Language

  4. Turn on both:

    • Set time automatically

    • Set time zone automatically

On macOS

  1. Click the Apple icon in the top-left corner of the screen

  2. Select Date & Time

  3. In the Date & Time tab, check Set date and time automatically

  4. In the Time Zone tab, check Set time zone automatically using current location

If the padlock at the bottom of the window is locked, click it and enter your password to make changes.
