Using VoiceOver in Nexam

VoiceOver may be used in Nexam if it is authorized in your accommodation plan.

Updated today

VoiceOver is only permitted during an assessment if the following two conditions are met:

  • VoiceOver is included in your official accommodation plan

  • Its use has been approved by your institution

Without meeting these conditions, VoiceOver must not be used during the exam. Always confirm authorization with your institution or coordinator before your assessment.

What is VoiceOver?

VoiceOver is a screen reader built into macOS. It allows you to navigate using your keyboard and hear the on-screen content read aloud.

Before the assessment

  • Make sure VoiceOver is activated in your Mac’s Accessibility settings.

  • If VoiceOver is part of your accommodation plan, inform the exam supervisor ahead of time.

Using VoiceOver in Nexam

  • Turn on VoiceOver using the shortcut Command + F5 on your Mac.

  • Click into the Nexam answer area using your cursor.

  • Use the Control + Option keys to navigate through the page.

  • To have text read aloud, select the desired portion and press Control + Option + A to read all, or Control + Option + L to read line by line.

VoiceOver helps you identify screen elements, hear question and answer content, and supports writing during the exam.
