Test your connection before an assessment
You can check the performance of your Internet connection at any time in the Validate your device section of Nexam.
To run the test:
Sign in to https://app.nexam.io.
In the left-hand menu, click Validate your device.
Open the Connection speed test tab.
Click Start.
The test measures:
latency;
download speed;
upload speed.
A green, yellow, or red indicator shows the performance of your connection.
This test is useful for checking your connection in advance and correcting any issues before your assessment.
Minimum connection requirements
To help ensure that your assessment runs properly, Nexam’s technical requirements are:
Download speed: 10 Mbps
Upload speed: 10 Mbps
Recommended connection type: wired Ethernet connection whenever possible
Mandatory validation before an assessment
When you access an assessment, Nexam performs a Technical requirements validation before allowing you to proceed to the assessment.
You must start the validation to check the requirements that apply to your device and connection.
As part of this validation, Nexam automatically checks:
your upload speed;
the stability of your connection.
These two checks are performed for all assessments, with or without monitoring.
Unlike the test available under Validate your device, the checks performed during the Technical requirements step are part of the assessment access process, and some results can prevent you from proceeding.
Upload speed
Nexam measures your connection’s ability to send data to the platform.
The results are interpreted as follows:
Below 2 Mbps: the validation fails. You cannot proceed to the assessment.
Between 2 and 5 Mbps: a warning is displayed. You may continue, but your connection is slower than recommended.
Above 5 Mbps: the validation is successful.
These thresholds determine whether your connection allows you to proceed to the assessment. They do not replace Nexam’s general recommended technical requirements.
Connection stability
Nexam also checks that exchanges with the platform remain functional during several consecutive checks.
A connection can have good speed while still experiencing interruptions. If Nexam detects an unstable connection, the validation fails and access to the assessment is blocked.
You must correct the connection issue and run the validation again before you can proceed.
Understanding the results
Latency: the network response time. Low latency helps maintain responsive communication between your device and the platform.
Download speed: the rate at which your device receives data. It affects the loading of content and documents.
Upload speed: the rate at which your device sends data. It is important for saving and transmitting data during an assessment.
Stability: your connection’s ability to remain functional without interruption during exchanges with Nexam.
Tips to improve your connection
If your connection is slow or unstable:
Use a wired Ethernet connection whenever possible.
If you are using Wi-Fi, move closer to your router.
Limit the number of devices using your network during the assessment.
Close non-essential applications.
Temporarily pause synchronization services such as OneDrive or Dropbox.
Restart your modem or router if needed.
Disconnect from a VPN if it is not required and is limiting your connection.
Try another network if the problem continues.
What to do if the validation fails
If your upload speed is insufficient or your connection is unstable:
Check your connection and follow the recommendations above.
Run the validation again.
Try another network when possible.
If the problem continues, contact your Internet service provider or your organization’s technical support team.
You must pass all applicable blocking checks before you can proceed to the assessment.
